Artist Statement

Throughout this semester, I did a lot of artwork. I really enjoy the time doing artwork every day in class. I did printmaking, handcrafts, figure drawing, colour gradients... ... I really like the process to work on a piece and enjoy the final look.

My two favourite artwork is the paper mache and the coil weave basket. The paper mache is the first artwork I did in class. I really enjoy doing it with other group members. We did Allen's apple juice but in a really large scale. We used some cardboard, measured the original apple juice and multiplied it by 30 times to make it a large scale. Then, we used old newspaper and glue to stick on the cardboard. Finally, we painted the cardboard with newspaper with acrylic paint. I did the coil weave basket with yarn and sisal rope. By wrapping the yarn around the sisal rope and adding stitches between levels, the basket soon formed its shape. It is really satisfying to wrap the yarn continuously.

I got some of the inspiration from our daily life. For example, I drew some self-portraits for two days. I expressed my emotions through the artwork by using different colours and different facial expressions. The first day, I was quite happy and the second day I was depressed.

Being an artist, I hope to share my daily life to others by various artwork. I think I did quite a good job to share my ideas and daily life to others because others can see what elements are around my daily life.

I learned to be more creative and think outside the box when creating my artworks in this term. The artworks I did are above my expectations as I am not a guy who is good in Art. If I were to do it again, I will use my past experience and put more patience doing those artworks.
